Our team in very competitive and almost won the championship this past season. The championship is played on Joe Riley field downtown by the way with 20 free kegs of beer at the event. We have several of our girls leaving the team for different reasons. So we are looking for some athletic girls to fill some gaps. We already have some girls that want to fill the spots but have never played a sport in there life, so we are trying to find some skilled ladies.

Info about the league: league cost 50.00(covers dues and your t-shirt), we play on tuesday nights either 630 or 730 (games are about an hour), you field 6men and 4women (but everybody kicks), games are played at the jewish community center in west ashley, alcohol is allowed(coolers, grills, you name it) pet friendly as well, 8 games in regular season then playoffs begin, winter league starts in early january around the 10th I think.

* Really looking for some girls that can run fairly quick, have some knowledge about baseball rules (not required though), and overall athletic

Underwater Hockey is a fast, action-packed sport played on the bottom of a swimming pool by two co-ed teams of six players equipped with mask, snorkel, fins and a short stick. The stick is used to pass a weighted puck from player to player across the bottom of the pool to score into the opposing team's goal.

Because it's non-contact and underwater, people of different sizes, ages and genders play on an equal field - it's not about strength, it's about teamwork and skill. It's great cross-training for runners, swimmers and bikers, and because it's a low-impact, non-gravity sport, it's a fun way to exercise that's easy on your body. And, no matter what your skill level, Underwater Hockey is a great way to have lots of fun, get fit, and make new friends!

Yes, it really exists! Underwater Hockey is an organized sport with clubs playing in over 50 cities across the U.S. and in nearly 30 countries worldwide. There are local and national tournaments each year and even a world level competition. We've been playing here in the Charleston for over 15 years and would love to introduce the sport to new players.

WHEN & WHERE: St. Andrews Family Rec Center, 1642 Sam Rittenberg Blvd., West Ashley, Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

COST: Free to St Andrews members. St Andrews guest fees are $10 per night. Ask at the front desk for a 1 week free trial membership. Also, we have some free 1 day passes for new players.

NEW PLAYERS: Anyone interested in giving Underwater Hockey a try is welcome to attend any practive - all you need to bring is a bathing suit and towel (and snorkeling gear if you have your own). We'll supply equipment, training, and a good time!

It will be no easy feat to train for the marathon, but I know that whenever I am hurting or feel that I cannot push a few more feet that I will remember the challenges that my grandfather and other people with cancer have faced. The Society trains over 35,000 runners, walkers, cyclist and tri-athletes each year while raising millions of dollars to help increase cancer research.

Cancer has affected so many people in my life. I am lucky to know many people who are now survivors. I admire their courageous efforts and I am thankful that they are still in my life and my friends and families lives. I hope that one day everyone who hears the words, “you have cancer,” can walk out of the hospital cured. We may not have control of a lot of things in life, but we can all do our part to make an effort.
