Promotion Coordinator Internship

Description

The objective is for Nakturnal to acquire college interns throughout the United States with a background in promotions, public relations, marketing, business, advertising, and/or communications, who have a specific interest in the music industry. One intern will be hired from a college or university in the Charleston area. Each intern will have the same primary responsibilities, with the ending goal of booking and promoting a show for Nakturnal's flagship artist, Kellee Maize. The resulting shows will create a path from company headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA to the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in California, ultimately ending with a slot on the Lilith Fair Tour.

Each intern will be responsible for implementing accompanying promotional activities, such as radio airplay or press interviews, in their university's city. The ultimate goal is to develop a sustainable program that can be utilized for other artists. Each intern will perform responsibilities independently in their city, with periodic supervision from our Pittsburgh office. The internship will commence in mid- to late January and will last the length of an academic semester. If you are chosen for the internship, but your college or university does not follow a traditional two-semester academic year, Nakturnal will make adjustments to your responsibilities in order to allow your participation.

Qualifications

The qualified candidate will have a good understanding of internet navigation and be familiar with Facebook and Myspace. They must be willing to research and learn how to maximize artist exposure through other, alternative internet and print promotional tools. The qualified candidate will possess a High School diploma or equivalent, and must be enrolled in a college or university in or around Charleston. They should be familiar with the Charleston metropolitan area in order to implement a comprehensive promotional effort in that city. Finally, applicants should possess excellent time management, problem solving and creativity and communication skills.

Example of responsibilities include:

* Actively seek new friends and followers on Facebook, myspace, and twitter
* Submit press kits to city and college radio stations, and network with station music and promotions directors, with goal of securing airtime
* Create and maintain databases of local media contacts, including newspapers, entertainment magazines, and college publications. Follow up with media contacts, with goal of acquiring interviews or music reviews for Kellee.
* Make 5 thoughtful comments or blog entries on music forums and blogs, under a 'kelleemaizefan'-type username
* Help book and promote a show in your metropolitan area
* Find local openers including a DJ who will help create a buzz for your show
