In business since May,1990 Stubbs hasn't changed his business philosophies, only his employees. As Key Note speaker at this years National Association of the Remodeling Industries trade show held in New York, Stubbs confessed to his piers that he came seriously close to leaving the business that he loves. The reason he shared with his audience was not the economy, lack of company funding or lack of sales but that his employees weren't up to delivering the companies mission statement. have always understood that we are in the customer service business.
Convincing our labor force and our sales staff of this fact has proven to be our companies greatest obstacle. We had become our own worst enemy. Stubbs went on to say that he was, at one point burnt out on constantly following up on his installers and his outside sales force. The installers would report in that a job was completed when in fact there were small details left unfinished. The homeowners would have to call in to our offices to ask when the punch list would be completed. The sales representatives weren't covering all of their sales appointments and even our office staff neglected to fill out service reports in a timely manner. The solution that Stubbs came up with was radical for his industry. Reduce the staff down to its super stars. While the average small business owner is continually looking for ways to grow, Stubbs downsized. He now only works with self-starters, self motivated individuals wanting to do a good job. South Carolinians are in need of qualified remodelers and there is plenty of work to be earned in our area, (His company covers a 150 mile radius of Charleston). The company is now made up of self motivated employees and Stubbs no longer stresses over his employees shortcomings but rather brags about the fact that when they make a commitment to a customer; it will be honored as stated. He went on to share with his audience that employee turn over can save their businesses reputation and should in the long run, enable them to grow their businesses hassle free.

Cepia LLC is probably living a PR nightmare now, as news about its top-selling toy surfaced on the web. The first time the company had to deal with this issue was in early November, when Walmart had to stop the sales, to build up the stock for an upcoming sale. Back then, Walmart’s Melissa O’Brien, Senior Manager PR & Brand Reputation told digtriad.com: “We’d love to clear up any miscommunication that started about these. They absolutely have not been recalled. In a handful of stores, a few hamsters were placed on shelves too early, and therefore their sale was already blocked until this Sunday.” Walmart apologized for the inconvenience, and things got back to normal. The Zhu Zhu Pets frenzy went on, as planned, during the Black Friday, and it continues today, when other recall rumors surface, this time based on a customer report by Good Guide.
Good Guide found antimony, a metal with potential health hazards in Mr. Squiggles’ fur. The federal limit for this toxin is 60 parts per million, but Mr. Squiggles had 93 parts per million in the fur, and 103 in the nose. Good Guide also found tin in the tested Zhu Zhu Pets, which is potentially harmful to the immune and nervous systems.
To counter the Good Guide’s findings, Cepia LLC issued a press release, with the subtitle: “Hottest toy of the holiday season passes the industry’s most stringent consumer health and safety certification standards.”
Believing a manufacturer press release, full of sales hype and self-serving statements is hard, but at least Cepia is trying. However, the approach is wrong.
“We are contacting the Good Guide people at this moment to share with them all of our Mr. Squiggles and Zhu Zhu Pet testing data so we can get to the bottom of how their report was founded,” Cepia LLC CEO Russ Hornsby said.
