It is one of the most tourist places in the region and has a lot to offer to the visitor. Its laidback atmosphere and amazing beaches give it a very distinctive touch. It is also a prime location for learning yoga and meditation in one of its many ashrams. It is also the home of Auroville, a famous international community created by the Guru Sri Auro Bindo.
The volunteer project is organized in cooperation with an active local NGO in the field of education and renovation. In the past years many schools and villages have benefited from the work done by international volunteers, including the 2004 Tsunami-hit regions. A shelter for children and old aged people was opened in a village 10 km from the city, providing support to the poorer sections of the population in the district. The volunteers will be involved in various activities ranging from manual work at the center, creative and entertainment activities in schools and kindergartens and spreading awareness on issues related to education, environment protection, health and hygiene. The idea is to tackle the burning issues that the rural population is facing.

For more details, please visit: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-india.htm

Volunteer opportunities in other countries: www.cadip.org/workcamps.htm, t: 617-502-0400 (US), 604-628-7400 (Canada)

Volunteering in Mexico! Protecting the Marine Turtles at Colola

Protecting the Marine Turtles at Colola

 November 25 - December 11, 2009
December 16, 2009 - January 1, 2010
January 6 - January 22, 2010
January 27 - February 12, 2010

The program for protecting the Marine Turtles is run since 1996 together with the Michoacan University and the local people of Colola Beach. This year again the international volunteers will work with the people of Colola village to protect the sea turtles. There are two kinds of turtles that arrive on the beach, the Negra (Black Turtle) and the Golfina (Olive Riddle Turtle). The people involved in the project help by collecting eggs, burying them in the turtle camp, taking care of the baby turtles and doing some work collecting statistical information.
In this frame, a group of international volunteers will be involved in the project as members of the staff, which means that the volunteers will be very involved in the project and the work.
The goal of this project is to protect the turtles and to help run the conservation activities of the turtle protection program, promoting international cooperation and solidarity.
The main work consists in collecting turtle eggs, burying them again in a secure place, and transporting the baby turtles safely to the sea. This will be carried out at night since the turtles do not get out of the ocean during the day (because of their natural predators, it is safer for the turtles go out of the ocean in the dark). Together with the people from Colola Village, the volunteers will seek for the turtles and take care of the eggs and the baby turtles. Local people, who are very friendly, work with the group and explain them what to do.
Very motivated volunteers who really want to get involved in the work for protection of the turtles are needed for this project.
There are also some extra activities to be done with the local people in order to help improve the town such as setting names to the streets of the town or helping to arrange a multi-use playground for the children, and maybe some cleaning work, but this depends on the volunteers' initiative. The people of the town are very open to participate in other activities that the group of volunteers can propose, so any ideas will be welcome.
Language: The official language of the project is English. Some Spanish would be appreciated.
Location: Colola is a small town located on the Michoacan State coast, between Maruata and La Placita towns. It's a remote place that offers an excellent opportunity to be close to nature, on a virgin beach, with no tourism around.
Hoarders Help (USA)

Discovery Studios, the internal production company for all of the Discovery-owned channels, is producing a series of hour-long documentary style shows about hoarding, which will air on TLC. We are currently recruiting people who would like to participate in this series.

This series is a serious, but compassionate, depiction of what hoarders go through. In the course of the show, we want our viewers to understand why people hoard things, what steps can be taken to deal with a serious hoarding situation and how shining a light on this common problem can lead to positive change for the people involved. We understand the very personal and sometimes embarrassing nature of this issue and guarantee that we will treat all characters involved in our program with respect.

A potential storyline could revolve around a situation where one family member is a hoarder and the rest of the family is having trouble coping. Or, it could be a family where multiple members are hoarders. In the most extreme cases, there may be a situation where the hoarder has been given an ultimatum to stop hoarding or else be evicted, cut off financially or divorced. Depending on the situation, we may be able to assist with finding a therapist or clean-up crew that can help guide the hoarder down a healthier road.

If you or someone you know is interested in discussing the project further with the producers, please contact Talia_Katz-CW@Discovery.com. Thank you.
It is one of the most tourist places in the region and has a lot to offer to the visitor. Its laidback atmosphere and amazing beaches give it a very distinctive touch.
Honor Guard members - American Legion (Goose Creek area)

The American Legion Post 166, located at 116 Howe Hall Road 9off Redbank Rd) in Goose Creek SC is in the process of recruiting additional members for our Military Honor Guard. If you are not familar with what an Honor Guard is, google it or go to youtube and watch some of the clips.
Basically, when a Veteran from any branch of service passes away, we provide his final military honors, as well as perform functions on holidays for our Post.
The Honor Guard takes committment and dedication. We drill as necessary to perform our mission proficiently which includes the following..
Flag folding and presentation to the next of kin at the gravesite or funeral home.
Age is not an issue !! Our best asset are mature members who are available since so many younger people are raising kids and working full time.
Live firing - military traditional three shot volley using rifles and blank ammunition.
The playing of "TAPS" for the deceased.
Some funerals require all and some only require a part of these honors, depending on family wishes.
Qualifications -
Have the time to drill, once every other week is the norm, although we have to step it up at certain times of the year, in the evenings.
Be available on a regular basis for funerals... they usually happen between the hours of 11:oo am - 4:00 pm and can happen any day, seven days a week. We realize no one can make them all, so we recruit alternates for weekends and off hours.

Open your heart and home to an international exchange student. P.I.E. needs host families and area representatives in your community for academic-year and semester home stay programs.

There is no such thing as a typical host family! Single-parent families, retired couples, families with only young children, families with teenagers and families with no children have all had successful hosting experiences. The most important criteria for a P.I.E. host family are a genuine interest to share the American culture with a foreign teenager and a sincere interest in the well-being of the student.

Host families are asked to provide a caring and safe environment. P.I.E. provides each student with medical insurance and students bring their own spending money to cover such expenses as clothing and entertainment.

It is only through the generosity of families such as yours that these young teens can have the opportunity to make their dream of coming to America a possibility. For more information please call Allen Cowart 866-334-5488 or email to allen@pieusa.org.
