We need your help with tasks like:

-Run the cash register and sales counter

Assist the ReStore truck driver with making donation pick-ups

This is something you can do once, but we also need people who would consider this as a project to do once a week for a half-day or a full business day.

Requirements: Friendly and able to interact with a variety of persons. Must be at least 16 or older. Ability to stand on yoru feet and lift 10lbs or more will be helpful with most tasks

Training and Benefits: On-site traning will be provided on your first day of volunteering with an orientation to Charleston Habitat for Humanity, the mission of the ReStore, and a tour of the store. One staff supervisor will always be available to assist with your position. Volunteers who complete 20 hours of service are eligible for discounts on ReStore merchandise as well as the satisfaction of helping the ReStore accomplish its mission - to provide affordable homeownership for low-moderate income families in Charleston and north Charleston by reusing, recycling, and selling building materials and furnishings donated by the community.

Also, we have close to twenty donated bikes that are being stored in the Teen Room. Right now they are taking up the entire room, but we have nowhere else to store them. With Summer Camp around the corner, we absolutley need to find a place to store the bikes outside, in order to free up the Teen Room so we have enough space for the campers. If you can help in any way, by volunteering any kind of locks or racks so that we can store the bikes outside, it would be greatly appreciated.

We are gearing up for our placement season for the 2009-2010 students who arrive in August and need as much help as we can get to get all these kids into homes.
After celebrating our sixtieth year in international education as a non-profit organization, the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) remains highly committed to our mission: “To help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world.”
Each student in our program is individually interviewed to ensure that they have the appropriate maturity level to be a successful participant in our program. We require a “C+” average to be accepted and we also require our students maintain this minimum grade average throughout their stay (allowing for a short adjustment period). Students have taken an English proficiency test to prove their ability to be academically successful while attending an American high school. Tutoring will be provided for a struggling student.
CIEE strongly believes that by volunteering their time to community service, our students will become more involved in the American way of life. Therefore, we require that they participate in a “Community Service Project” (8 hours per semester) to ensure that they reciprocate the exchange and benefits to their host family, school, and their community.
Students are between 15-18 years old, have their own medical insurance, and spending money. There is no better time than NOW to learn more about our neighbors in the world!!

Afternoon Tea benefits the Outreach Learning Center in two important ways. Monies generated go directly to the Outreach Learning Center to enhance the literacy programs a the Center, and attendees become aware of the Center’s programs, which include AS kids (an after-school program for inner-city youth), English as a Second Language, GED prep classes and basic computer classes. Respite Care receives all tips from Afternoon Tea at St. Matthew’s.
