Anthony of Padua, a Portuguese friar and priest (born 1195), was known for his powerful preaching, vast knowledge of scripture, and his love and devotion to the poor. He died at the age of 35 and was relatively soon after declared to be St. Anthony, the patron Saint of lost things. This 1890s French diorama of St. Anthony is a real treasure. Measures 24 1/2 inches tall x 15 inches wide. Extends 3 1/2 inches deep on the back of the frame.
