2003 (Early) Firefly fretless acoustic bass by Michael Kelly - New Strings - Fishman Pickup. Sounds good acoustic and plugged in. - You'll notice it looks different (better inlay) than other Firefly basses, and has a better electronics system. A used Firefly on reverb is @$350, and a used Dragonfly = more $$. This specs out closer to the Dragonfly. I emailed Michael Kelly about it when I bought it, and this is their reply:
-Welcome to the Michael Kelly family. I hope that you are enjoying your vintage Mk acoustic bass. The model that you have is indeed the first version of the Firefly. That was made in 2003 and is the predecessor to the Dragonfly of today. At that time we were changing the inlay design every few years. So the model and specs otherwise have remained similar over the 17 years that we have made that bass, but the inlay change 5 times. Yes the QAM was for Quilt Amber, referring to the color. The other change over the years has been the electronics, something else that you already observed. Most other specs are what you will see on our site today for the Dragonfly. Wishing you many years of enjoyment from your MK!
I would like to keep the sale local to the Charleston area. As always, cash is king. I'm willing to trade for a Realist Double Bass pickup.
**please note, if you want your "agents" to pick it up in exchange for a money order or cashiers check, they are more than welcome to do so if they cash it and bring me cash or a new Realist Double Bass pickup**
