H&J Contracting of SC, LLC is seeking an experienced Underground Pipe Layer to lay pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains with the ability to perform any combination of the following tasks: grade trenches or culverts, position pipe, or seal joints.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (May include but not limited to the following)
• Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing.
• Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers.
• Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement, or glue.
• Cover pipes with earth or other materials.
• Cut pipes to required lengths.
• Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools.
• Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines, cut saws and other hand tools.
• Install and repair sanitary and storm water sewer structures and pipe systems.
• Lay out pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints, and coordinating layouts with supervisors.
• Locate existing pipes needing repair or replacement, using magnetic or radio indicators.
• Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.
• Install and use instruments such as lasers, grade rods, and transit levels.
• Operate mechanized equipment such as pickup trucks, rollers, tandem dump trucks, front-end loaders, and backhoes.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 2 years previous underground pipe laying experience
• Adhere to all safety practices, procedures and wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job safely.
• Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
• Ability to communicate techniques as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, vendors, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
• Knows the formal and informal company’s goals, standards, safety policies and procedures.
• Ability to organize work and carry through established procedures and work plans.
• Must be physically able to perform job tasks.
• Must have reliable transportation as jobs are in Charleston, Dorchester and Berkeley counties.
• Average work week consists of 50+ hours.
• Must be available to work Saturday’s when needed.
